Definition
Cube utilization is a metric that measures how effectively the available cubic space in a container, trailer, or warehouse is being used. Higher utilization means more efficient use of space and typically lower per-unit shipping costs.
Calculating Cube Utilization
Cube Utilization = (Volume Used ÷ Total Available Volume) × 100
Example:
- Trailer capacity: 3,000 cubic feet
- Cargo volume: 2,400 cubic feet
- Utilization = (2,400 ÷ 3,000) × 100 = 80%
