Detention fees apply when you keep a carrier’s container or trailer at your facility longer than permitted. Unlike demurrage (at terminals), detention occurs at customer locations during loading or unloading.
How Detention Works

- Free time clock starts (typically 2-4 hours)
- Fees begin after free time expires
- Charges accrue until equipment returns
