Trailer Pool

Also known as: Drop Trailer Program, Pool Trailers, Trailer Yard

Definition

A trailer pool is a collection of trailers stationed at a shipper’s or receiver’s facility. These trailers can be preloaded or unloaded without the driver present, enabling “drop and hook” operations where drivers swap trailers rather than waiting during live loading.

How Trailer Pools Work

  1. Drop - Driver drops empty trailer at facility
  2. Hook - Driver hooks to pre-loaded trailer
  3. Load/Unload - Facility works trailer without driver
  4. Repeat - Next driver repeats process
