Track and Trace

Also known as: Package Tracking, Shipment Tracking, Tracking System

Definition

Track and trace is the system that allows shippers and recipients to monitor a package’s journey through the delivery network. Each scan event creates a record of where the package was and when, providing visibility throughout transit.

How Track and Trace Works

  1. Label creation - Unique tracking number assigned
  2. Origin scan - First scan when carrier receives package
  3. Hub scans - Scans at each facility along the route
  4. Out for delivery - Scan when loaded on delivery vehicle
  5. Delivery scan - Final scan at destination
